Fumi Somehara (she/her)

B.Sc (Nutrition)(Hons) / B.App.Sc (Exercise and Sports Science)

Fumi founded DDD Centre for Recovery with the aim to create a space where every body is welcome and respected, regardless of their size, shape, race, gender, sexual orientation, ability and disability. This has stemmed from her passion to support individuals to nurture respectful and compassionate relationships with their food and body.

Fumi’s expertise is in Dance Nutrition, RED-S and Eating Disorders Treatment. Her own dance journey started when she attended her first ballet class at the age of five; it was the one constant factor in her life as her family moved between Japan and Australia. She was captivated by the beauty of creative expression and artistry, and grew strong interest in the works of human body. She went on to study Nutrition and Exercise and Sports Science at The University of Sydney to extend her knowlege in the specialist field and dance and nutrition.

In addition to her individual work with clients, Fumi is a:

  • fellow of Japan Association for Eating Disorders; and

  • lecturer for dance nutrition at Academy of Music and Performing Arts.

In the past she has also played key role as a:

  • Leadership team member of Eating Disorders Interest Group at Dietitians Australia (2018 - 2022): organised annual eating disorders workshop for dietitians;

  • Executive committee member of ASPAH (2022 - 2023): developed its first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policy.

On the weekends you will find Fumi running after her baby!
