Fumi Somehara (she/her)

Fumi is the founder and principal dietitian of DDD Centre for Recovery. Her expertise is in Dance Nutrition and Eating Disorders Treatment. She is passionate about supporting individuals to nurture respectful and compassionate relationships with their food and body.

Fumi's dance journey started when she attended her first ballet class at the age of five; it was the one constant factor in her life as her family moved between Japan and Australia, and she was captured by the beauty of creative expression and artistry. Throughout her years of training, Fumi also, unfortunately, witnessed and experienced the poor body image and disordered eating practices that were prevalent in the industry, leading to dancers' poor physical, mental, and emotional health. This is why she’s doing the work - to help and support dancers to achieve their best through nourishment, self-compassion, and self-respect.

In addition to her individual work with clients, Fumi is a:

• executive committee member of ASPAH;

• fellow of Japan Association for Eating Disorders; and

• lecturer for dance nutrition at Academy of Music and Performing Arts.

In the past she has also been involved in:

• leadership team member of Eating Disorders Interest Group at Dietitians Australia for five years

On the weekends you will find Fumi enjoying picnics and building Lego!
