What is Anorexia Nervosa?

Anorexia Nervosa - It can happen to any and all body sizes and shapes

Anorexia Nervosa (AN) is a type of Eating Disorders characterised by restriction of food intake, weight loss (and fear of weight gain), and distorted body image.

AN is categorised into two types: (1) restrictive type, and (2) binge eating/purge type.

Atypical Anorexia Nervosa

The term Atypical Anorexia Nervosa is already stigmatising enough. AAN is everything that AN has, but without the low weight.

Eating Disorder doesn’t discriminate; it can happen to anyone of any sizes.

AAN often goes undiagnosed because it gets dismissed as “just dieting”. This is dangerous, because if left untreated, AAN can lead to similar deterioration in health as AN due to starvation and malnutrition.
