What is ARFID?
ARFID stands for Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. It is a type of Eating Disorder characterised by disturbance in eating/feeding resulting in severe nutritional deficiencies, severe weight loss and/or failure to thrive. It is similar to AN, however, does not possess the body image distortion.
In children, ARFID can be misdiagnosed as “just fussy eating”. It is therefore important to seek advice and assessment from professionals who specialises in Eating Disorders.
